Boater’s Cabin

Boater's Cabin is a site-specific design located on the southern shore of East Marion on Long Island's North Fork. It was designed for a client who loves boating, on a lot at the edge of the bay. The angular form follows the shape of the lot. The detail comes from showing how the cabin is built: exposed joinery and reveals between materials. There is no ornament beyond the craft of construction.

Materials are used for their inherent characteristics: color, texture, function, and durability; and plainly expressed in their natural state.

The cabin is small, but it reaches toward the water and frames wide views of the bay. Inside, warm timber walls contrast with the bright exterior. Indoor and outdoor spaces open onto each other, for the hour before heading out on the boat and the moment of coming home. Morning light ripples across the water; in the evening, the cabin’s glow spills out over it.

An unbuilt concept, designed by Argiris Giorgou before KOPOS. It received an Archi Award Commendation, Unbuilt Projects – Residential, AIA Long Island, 61st Annual Archi Awards (2025).
