Boaters Cabin nestled in a meadow on the bay, its sculpted wood volume catching the sunrise as small boats sit anchored just off the shore.

Boater’s Cabin

East Marion, NY
Boater's Cabin is a site-specific design located on the southern shore of East Marion on Long Island's North Fork. The project reflects the client's passion for boating while thoughtfully addressing the site's natural environment and derived architectural context. The building's angular form responds to the lot's geometry while detail in the home is achieved by…

Materials are used for their inherent characteristics: color, texture, function, and durability; and plainly expressed in their natural state.

Despite its modest footprint, the cabin extends its presence toward the water, framing expansive views and creating a sense of openness. Inside, the warmth of timber envelops the space, contrasting with the bright and open exterior to evoke comfort and tranquility. Interior and exterior spaces are seamlessly connected, accommodating the anticipation before setting out on the water and the sense of relief upon returning. In the morning, soft light ripples across the water, awakening the cabin quietly; by evening, a gentle glow spills over the water, marking the close of the day.

Boater’s Cabin is more than a simple shelter – it serves as an architectural threshold mediating between departure and return, solitude and gathering, and the interplay of nature and human presence.
