First was a need to expand the bedrooms on the second floor to create larger bedrooms for the young couple’s three children while incorporating amenities for the primary bedroom suite. Secondly was a request to rethink an unwelcoming, dark covered patio area at the rear of the house. For the first, an addition over the existing garage reconfigures the bedroom layout and creates bright rooms. For the second, the design opens the walls at either end of the covered patio. The result is a warm outdoor kitchen and dining room that the family actually uses.
