Family waiting area at Spence-Chapin featuring red lounge chairs, a wood coffee table, and a long wood bench along a paneled wall, creating a warm, living-room-like setting off the main lobby.

Spence-Chapin

New York, NY
Spence-Chapin’s new Upper East Side office translates the warmth of a long-time home near Central Park into a contemporary, two-floor workplace overlooking the East River. The move gave the adoption agency room to expand its programs while asking the architecture to balance intimacy, clarity, and flexibility for families, staff, and partners.

The fit-out organizes a mix of open and private offices, small medical suites, and flexible meeting and event rooms around a sequence of reception, waiting, and consultation spaces that feel calm and approachable rather than institutional. Warm woods, soft textiles, and clear wayfinding elements anchor the public areas, while glass partitions and shared daylight keep the working zones connected and collaborative. The result is a quietly modern environment that supports sensitive conversations, everyday operations, and larger gatherings in a single, cohesive interior.
